DRowning Prevention Week 2019
Gala Academy is supporting Drowning Prevention Week, which this year will run from Friday 14th – Monday 24th June 2019. As the summer holidays approach and the temperatures start creeping up (hopefully), the appeal and attraction of our local rivers, lochs and reservoirs is greater to our young people.
Drowning remains one of the leading causes of accidental death in children and young people in the UK. The Drowning Prevention campaign is run by the Royal Life Saving Society UK and aims to reduce the number of drowning and non-fatal water related incidents that occur in the UK every year, by showing people how to stay safe and have fun near water.
Scottish Borders Council are supporting Drowning Prevention Week by promoting safety messages and information through newsletters and various social media platforms. We would be extremely grateful if you could also share some of this information through your school social media and news platforms so that parents and young people can educate themselves of the associated dangers and the ways to stay safe around water.
I have attached some information that can be shared via the aforementioned platforms and also the Secondary Schools Booklet which contains various information and activities to help young people better understand the dangers of water.
