Business EDUCATION

 

 

Currently the Business Education Department offers the following courses:

S1 – All pupils follow a course that takes them through a variety of software packages that are commonly used in Business.  This will be for one period a week.

 

S2 – All pupils follow a course that introduces the pupil to the 2 main Business Education Subjects that pupils can take in S3 which are Administration and IT and Business Management at National 5 and National 4.  The course in S2 will build on the software packages used in S1 and will introduce pupil to basic Business Studies theory.

 

S3 - Pupils may select Business Management in S3 as part of their choices. This course runs for the whole year and is for 3 periods a week.  This will give pupils a grounding in the topics which will be studied in S4 at National 5 and National 4. The second subject is Admin & IT in S3 and this also runs for the whole year and is for 3 periods a week. This will give pupils a grounding in the topics which will be studied in S4 at National 5 and National 4.

Senior school pupils may select from the following courses:

Business at National 3 and 4

 

This follows the SQA courses that follow a general look at the world of business as well as looking at the 4 main departments in a small to medium sized Business.   This is assessed continually in the school and has Unit Assessments as well as a project based upon a local business.  This can lead on to study Business Management at National 5

 

Business Management at National 5 and Higher

 

These courses follow the SQA courses that study the world of business as well as looking at the 4 main departments in a large Business.   This has a final exam and a project which are both marked by the SQA.  Studying National 5 can lead to progression onto Higher Business Management and Higher Business Management can progress onto Higher Economics in S6.

 

Higher Economics

 

S6 only.  This course looks at how societies are organised to supply individuals with their needs and wants.  There are 3 units.  Unit 1 looks at how market work, Unit 2 looks at the workings of the UK Economy and Unit 3 looks at Global Trade.  There is a project and a final exam which are both marked by the SQA.

 

 

Administration & IT at National 3 and 4

 

These courses follow the SQA courses Administrative Practices, IT Solutions for Administrators and Communication in Administration. This is assessed continually in the school and has Unit Assessments. National 4 can lead to the study of National 5 Administration and IT.

 

National 5 Administration and IT

 

This course follows the SQA course covering IT applications and administrative theory and practice. It provides students with the IT skills required in most workplaces. There is a practical assignment and a practical exam, both of which include theory and are marked by the SQA. Studying National 5 can lead to higher Administration and IT.

 

Higher Administration and IT

 

This course follows the SQA course covering IT applications and administrative theory and practice. There is a practical assignment and a theory paper, both of which are marked by the SQA.
