Further information

The University of Edinburgh have a small number of widening access places available in Scottish Clearing on Tuesday 8 August 2017.

Who is eligible to be considered?
To be eligible to be considered for one of our widening access places, applicants must reside permanently in Scotland in an area within the ‘Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation’ ‘SIMD20’, for short. Please also note that applicants who do not reside in an area within the SIMD20, but have spent time in local authority care, may also be eligible to be considered for one of our Clearing places.

How can students check if they are eligible?
Applicants can check if they live in an area within the SIMD20 by entering their home postcode in our online checker, which is now live on the Clearing pages of the University website: www.ed.ac.uk/clearing

Which degree programmes have places?
The majority of our degree programmes will have places. Programmes that do not have places are noted on the Clearing page of the University website: www.ed.ac.uk/clearing

What are the entry requirements?
To be eligible to be considered for a place, applicants must meet the minimum entry requirements for the programme they are applying to study.
As a general guide, for most programmes, the minimum entry requirement for SQA Highers is ABBB - AABB, although for programmes in Art and Design, it is BBBB. Applicants should check the UCAS website for specific programme requirements, including any required subjects at specific grades.

Can students who enter via Clearing apply for University accommodation?
Students who are successful in securing a place at Edinburgh in Clearing will receive a guaranteed offer of University accommodation, provided they apply for accommodation by 16 August, and they currently reside outside the City of Edinburgh.
Can students who enter via Clearing apply for University funding?
Students who are successful in securing a place at Edinburgh in Clearing and who are covered by the University accommodation guarantee (noted above) may be eligible for one of our Scotland Scholarships which are available to assist Scotland domiciled students with living costs during their undergraduate study. Awards of between £500 and £2,000 per year are offered.
