Students in S6 holding unconditional offers for the University of Edinburgh

The University will be getting in touch with students over the next few months who are holding unconditional offers to study at the University of Edinburgh.

Students are advised to commit fully to their S6 studies in preparation for the move to University, whether at Edinburgh or elsewhere. Studies undertaken by the University of Edinburgh show that students who have worked hard and  committed to studies in S6 make the smoothest transition to university and get better degrees as a result.

Each university assesses applications to study based on results, S6 studies and predicted grades. If a student is considering dropping a subject in S6 that was included in the UCAS application form, they  are strongly advised to contact the University first as this may impact on offers  made. This should also be discussed with class teacher, pastoral teacher and DHT.

We are delighted to invite students to a  FREE Student Conference, organised by the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, being held on Monday 21st March 2016 in Edinburgh.

This full-day conference is available to students from all UK schools and colleges currently in fifth year,  studying for Scottish Highers or comparable qualifications. The conference will  include:

  • Course information sessions with taster lectures delivered by current Oxford and Cambridge teaching staff
  • Up-to-date information on applying to Oxford and Cambridge (including Student Life)
  • Student finance and graduate prospects
  • Information for teachers

Admissions Tutors and other staff from both universities will be on hand to answer questions and there will be the opportunity to talk informally to current undergraduates. Further information will be provided upon booking.

Please let Miss Clarkson know if you are interested in attending the Edinburgh conference as booking is made through the school.

REACH Programme - Students interested in Architecture, Law, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine

If there are any students who  are not currently registered with REACH and are interested in Architecture, Law, Medicine or Veterinary Medicine please sign up online here: There is also an upcoming event that will be of interest to pupils in S4 who are thinking about Medicine as a career path. Medic Insight is an organisation that runs work experience opportunities for school pupils who are interested in Medicine. They are running a one day career exploration event on Saturday 20th February for current S4 pupils, at the Queen's Medical Research Institute next to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The event will involve talks on the medicine application process (including academic and non-academic requirements), talks about studying medicine and talks from doctors working in a wide variety of specialist areas. Pupils will also take part in hands-on practical workshops. It is *free* for pupils to attend, but is strictly limited on numbers and places will be assigned on a "first come, first served" basis. Registration for the Medic Insight Day opens on Monday 11th January at 9am and will be via an online form here: and I would urge any interested pupil to sign up as soon as possible once the registrations open! If there are any S4 pupils also  interested in Medicine, please also register with REACH
